Dirk Baecker
Dirk Baecker has earned merit for intensively observing organisations and management from the viewpoint of a systems theorist, and for developing challenging impulses, coupled with advanced reflections about society, from these observations. He was one of the first to identify the heroism in management as having too little complexity- effectiveness (see his booklet about post-theoretical management). He reveals the one-sided focus by managers on ‘action’, whilst neglecting ‘observation’ and ‘reflection’, as problematic.
He tests, like no other, Spencer-Brown’s efficiency calculations to understand organisations and explains why network structures could, within the next decades, be effective for complementing or even replacing organisations’ significance in our society. His current research applies to digitalisation and its impact on a ‘next society’.
