“Is something at rest really more content than something in motion? Is the immutable really and necessarily more valuable than a thing which changes? And if someone contradicts himself a thousand times and walks many paths and carries many masks and cannot find an end in himself or in the horizon: is it possible that such a person will discover less about >truth< than a virtuous stoic who has placed himself for ever like a pillar and with a hard skin of a pillar in his place? But the same prejudices sit on the threshold of all philosophies to date: and it is strange that it would seem he must fight the philosopher as his actual enemy.”
