Leadership Aspects of Security

Leadership gives orientation, otherwise it is not leading. Orientation is the form of security that has the freedom to name a goal and to maintain or change it if the time shows that it is necessary. Ensuring the robustness of the plan as well as having a plan B are both necessary, so that the leadership can act competently in complex conditions. Providing security in the leadership role fundamentally means to take the decision about what is made transparent, or communicated where, to whom, when, and in which way. Here it is important to choose between two different forms of security, because information can make employees more secure or, conversely, very insecure. An unrealistic security can be more dysfunctional than a realistic insecurity. Leadership, in complex conditions, must ensure both forms of security: giving security where possible, and working towards security, with insecurity, when necessary.
