Game Forms of Goals

Four aspects and their combination are particularly helpful for the differentiation of goals. In this way, a better understanding of the guiding process goal setting and its pattern can be achieved (we base this, partly along with other terms, on a concept by Eberhard Stahl).

• there are goals which are decidable by teams and some which are ‘prescribed’. Therefore, it revolves around the differentiation about whether a team can choose to follow the goals or not.
• There are goals which are ‘transparent’ to the team and some which are ‘concealed’. Thus, it revolves around the differentiation about whether goals are public and how public they are. Whether one can, or is allowed to communicate about it, depends upon this.

Thus, four possibilities arise in combination:

• decidable and transparent goals
• decidable and concealed goals
• prescribed and concealed goals
• prescribed and transparent goals

These four fields are essential to consultancy with regard to the changeability of patterns, or the understanding of the status quo in teams.
