Dream Team Structure

If one combines the closeness pole, the freedom pole and the uniqueness pole, teams develop with a dream team structure. Teams of this kind find themselves magnificent as a ‘team’. The members enjoy the connectedness and have the feeling that they can go through hell and high water. One works hand in hand and has the feeling of being able to achieve great things. One also communicates this to the outside and is gushing. Such team experiences are often very satisfying for members and enable performance which was considered impossible. For organisations, they are not ‘feasible’, but must happen, because the conditions for such an interaction pattern is complex and cannot be created to order.

The danger of such dream teams is similar to that of work teams, except that because of the loading of uniqueness in the group, the obligation to exploit increases (“I can’t let the others down!”), the obligation to reveal oneself climbs (“We don’t keep secrets between us!”) and the group proliferates (“We do everything together!”). In organisations, such teams attract envy, jealousy and competition. Therefore, they can also have a strong demotivational effect within the environment.
