Diagnostic Tools

The concept of gaining insights into clients by means of tools and diagnostic procedures rests on the notion that certain information and its completeness is necessary to arrive at a measured diagnosis. The notion is scientifically verified and tested.

Therefore, there are many instruments for the recording of defined conditions: suitability for a role, psychological impairment, i.e. burnout, narcissism, or behavioural structures or prevalences (MBTI, DISG/DISC). To a certain extent, these instruments ostensibly replace the perception of the counsellor (ultrasound instead the physician’s touch). Nevertheless, in turn, a counsellor is required in order to interpret the results of the tool/test etc.

The danger consists of thinking that a tool will give, in itself, a valid and objective result, which does not have to be further interpreted for its meaningfulness and significance.
