Decision and Oscillation
If the thesis is right, that, there are no objective criteria in order to decide between the poles of the guiding processes, then the search for a fitting way becomes a type of feeling one’s way situationally. Therefore, decisions about the guiding distinctions always occur under ‘this as well as that’ conditions, under the caveat of contradictions in the face of good opposition arguments and inescapable uncertainties.
Thus, an oscillation in the decision-making process is often unavoidable. Deciding becomes the path, rather than the point. A change in direction would then be indicated rather than problematical. Zigzag, rather than being proof of incompetence, could then be an indication of essential search manoeuvres, which define something. Argument and counter argument would normalise. Conflict would be the norm, total conviction the exception. It would be impossible to be correct. Dialogue would be unavoidable. The recognition of opportunity and of favourable points in time, the increase of alternatives, the letting go or the seizing of possibilities – all these would be anchored in the organisational competences. These competences cannot be acquired by personnel in college, but rather in life, through reflecting upon experiences.
