Congruence

Congruence (coherence) arises when unconscious and conscious messages do not clearly contradict each other. The less someone wants to know about himself, the clearer the incongruence will be in contact, in self-expression, in behaviour and in the reactions which he triggers in others. On the side of the consultant, therefore, the observations, the evaluation and the reflection of the lack of congruence becomes one of the fundamental tools for revealing the meaning and function of this incoherence. Congruence is also a significant element in building trust between people. and in addition, it is of great relevance for the maintaining of relationships, for the successful processing of conflicts, for the possibilities of leading and allowing oneself to be lead and for dealing with complexity in organisations. Every person, therefore, makes far-reaching decisions for everyday life, when he decides what he makes conscious and what he leaves unconscious.
